Visiting the park

Finding Peach Hill

The entrance to Peach Hill is on Edgewood Drive, which intersects the east side of Salt Point Turnpike (NYS Route 115) just opposite the Dutchess Racquet Club, and just north of the Gables. If you are driving north on Salt Point Turnpike, Peach Hill is the first right turn after Bedell Road.

To find Peach Hill using a GPS system, enter “32 Edgewood Drive.”

Being safe

With any activity, there are precautions to take to make the activity safer and more fun.  At Peach Hill you could be exposed to several hazards. There is little risk if you take several easy precautions:

  • The most important precaution is to stay to the middle of the mowed trails. This will greatly decrease the chance you will come in contact with poison ivy or black-legged ticks.
  • Learn to identify and avoid poison ivy (see the Fauna and Flora tab).  If you do touch it, wash with Tec-Nu Soap as soon as possible after exposure.
  • To avoid ticks it is recommended that you use a repellent containing “DEET”; wear long pants and long sleeved shirt; and do a daily “tick check.”  There is more information on the Dutchess County Health Department Website.
  • Don’t eat the soil. Peach Hill Park is a former commercial apple orchard where agricultural pesticides were used prior to 1999.  Very low levels of those older pesticides remain in some places of the park. We have taken steps to prevent you being exposed to them.  To do your part, it is important to not ingest (eat) the soil.
